Business ARM M0 in Zero Gecko

Silicon Labs is sampling a range of low power microcrocontrollers, called Zero Gecko, based on the ARM M0 core for battery-powered situations like the Internet of Things.

Si Labs reckons IoT be the first 10 billion unit annual market.

Zero Gecko operates in five states:

Run mode – at 110 microAmps per MHZ

Sleep mode – -at 50 microAmps per MHz

Deep Sleep mode – at 900nA

Stop mode -at 510nA

Shutoff mode -at less than 20nA.

The chips contain a programmable DAC. They are made on a 180nm process at TSMC.

A complementary software suite, Simplicity Studio which contains a debugger, can reduce development time and cut time to market.

Zero Gecko comes with a $69 starter kit for applications development. The chips are priced at 49 cents in 100,000 quantities.

Volume production is planned for Q4.
