Longines Watches

Longines is another Swiss-based watch company. Also founded in the 1830s, it holds the oldest registered watch company logo. Though currently owned by Swatch, it was founded by Auguste Agassiz in Saint-Imier, Switzerland. When Agassiz's son Ernest Francillon took over in 1862, he turned the company into a true business. The company's name comes from the tracts of land purchased by Francillon, near a place called Les Longines.

The company's first watch debuted in 1867, and they continued successfully from there, creating their first wristwatches in the early 20th century. 1912 was a big year for Longines, as they began to move away from round watches and experimented with more daring shapes. They also premiered their creation of automatic timing at the Swiss Federal Gymnastics Meet in 1912. Another landmark for Longines was in 1927, when their timepieces were used in Charles Lindbergh's transatlantic flight. In 1952, their Photogines device was used in equestrian sports, as it was the first device that could keep time while also visualizing the finish line.

More recently, Longines celebrated its 175th anniversary as well as the creation of its 30 millionth watch. Today, Longines has ten collections for men and seven for women, with watches ranging in price from 400 dollars to 3,000 dollars. They use materials including gold, mother-of-pearl, stainless steel, quartz, and leather. Their watches are desired as a mark of old-world taste and distinction.

If you are looking to collect timepieces, or wish to get a nice watch for those special occasions, nothing beats a Longines - Timeless style guaranteed to invoke desire from your peers.

Longines Watches - A Review Of The Evidenza Collection

The Longines Evidenza watch will appeal to those who want a rectangular shaped watch that is a little different, though of classic design and elegance. Its design makes it an ideal dress watch for both ladies and gentlemen and is certainly one of the more distinctive collections of Longines watches.

Longines make fine watches with both quartz and mechanical movements. What the company also does is make the collection quite broad in terms of functionality, styling and price. So, no matter which collection you prefer, you can find a watch with the looks you like and within your budget. The same applies to the current Evidenza collection.

The company's blurb tries to evoke something of the 1920s when talking about the Evidenza collection. It's true that this collection does have a certain historic or timeless look to it, but the watch could just easily evoke the 30s or 50s or even today.

The unifying theme of the collection is the tonneau shape of the casing. Tonneau comes from the French for 'cask' which does perfectly describe the shape of the watch case; it has a flat bottom and top part to the bezel with the sides being slightly curved, as though you were seeing a wine barrel from side on. Another prevalent feature is the 'Flinque' dial. Again, this French word denotes a pattern formed of close, concentric circles. Not all have this very elegant finish to the dial, but most do.

Most of the Evidenza ladies watches are 26.00 x 30.60 mm with a smaller version that is 19.60 x 23.30 mm. Most come with a quartz movement though one or two models come with selfwinding mechanical movements beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour - the power reserve is 42 hours. There is also a ladies chronograph version with a L652 self-winding mechanical movement and 40 hour power reserve. As you would expect of a mechanical chronograph the casing is the largest in the ladies collection, measuring 30.50 x 35.60 mm. There is a large choice of finishes to the dial, ranging from Roman or Arabic numerals and diamonds or plain. In my opinion the nicest watches of the ladies versions are those that come with a date aperture at the 6 o'clock and with a black dial. The most beautiful in the collection for me is model number L2.155.0.57.2 featuring a stainless steel casing, black lacquered dial with fine steel hands and diamond-set Arabic numerals, and a simple, understated black leather strap.

Of the men's watches the most appealing has to be the mechanical chronograph versions. Like most of the Longines watches it has a flinqued dial with a seconds subdial at 3 o'clock, a totalizer to 12h counter of a second at 6 o'clock and a 30-minute totalizer at 9 o'clock. What's a very nice detail is that a date aperture overlaps the 12h counter subdial at the 6 o'clock. I haven't seen all the models available but of those I have, my favorite is model L2.643.6.73.9 with a casing in yellow gold. There is also a rose gold version, which I would love to see in person.

The Evidenza watches by Longines are very stylish, dress watches that have a timeless elegance to them. Unlike some watches with more contemporary styling, you won't have to worry about these looking dated in 10 years or so.

Guides for Maintaining a Longines Gold-Plated Watch

As one of the most experienced and greatest Swiss watch manufacturers in the world, Longines produces magnificent timepieces for watch collectors and watch lovers. The price of a Longines watch is very high, especially a gold-plated watch. Usually a person buys it for collecting instead of daily wear. Still there are some people who buy it as a daily wear to show off their wealth. Either buy such a watch of high price tag for wearing or for collecting, it is necessary for people to maintain it well as it is precious. There are some guides for the owners of a Longines gold-plated watch to keep it well here.

Keep the watch dry and clean. It is better for people to wipe the timepiece with corduroy cloth. This can be done once a week. If there is sweet on it, is should be cleaned and dried as soon as possible.

The gold-plated watch should be kept away from touching hard surfaces. As we know, the layer of gold polish is too thin to broken. To keeping it away from touching hard surfaces is to avoid scratches.

Keep the watch away from chemical substances such as liquid gas, sulfur soap and emissions. These substances are harmful to the watch. They will remove the gold plated layer of the timepiece.

Clean it. The cleaning is not as easy as cleaning other watches. It is better for people to smear a tiny drop of plain toothpaste on the cloth which is used for cleaning the watch. The gold-plated band should be rubbed first. Then rub other parts of the timepiece. After that, use a wet new cloth to rub the watch again. Make sure to rub the toothpaste. Then use it soft cloth to dry the watch. The watch will look new after cleaning.

A Longies Gold-plated Watch is precious not only because of the high price, but also because of the reputation of Longines. By following the above methods people can surely keep it well.

An Overview Of Tissot Watches

Tissot watches have been made for over 150 years and offer excellent value for money for those looking to by a Swiss watch from a genuine manufacturer with a pedigree in watch making.

The company was founded in 1853 and has been in its present location of Le Locle in the Jura Mountains for over 150 years. It is now part of the Swatch group, whose other brands include Omega, Longines, Rado, and Calvin Klein. The Swatch Group is the largest watchmaker in the World, accounting for 25% of all sales.

Tissot has been responsible for some of watchmakings firsts, including the first anti-magnetic watch, the first plastic watch (Idea 2001), the first stone watch (The Rockwatch) and even the first watch made of wood (The Woodwatch). They have also been appointed as official timekeepers through the years to some of the biggest and most well known of sporting events.

Tissot watches are designed for the low- to mid-price range of Swiss watches. Because of their affordability they are often the first Swiss watch someone buys. You can by a Swiss made, Tissot watch for as little as $240.

The company has many collections such as the Carson, Desire, Heritage Classic, PR50, Trend Flower and T-Touch.

Most watches come with a quartz movement though some comes with mechanical movements with some complications like chronograph.

The Tissot Flower collection is a ladies watch with an emphasis on youthful design. The bezel consists of petals which open and close as you rotate the bezel. The petals come in an assortment of very pretty colors on enameled steel. Likewise the straps come in complementary colors of satin leather. Many of the dials are of mother-of-pearl.

The Carson collection is of traditional design; round dial, small link strap, thin arms and sparse dials with simple hour markers. The movements are mechanical automatic. The case is of stainless steel with straps available in stainless steel or a mixture of steel and gold gilt links. The collections includes both gents and ladies watches.

The Heritage Classic collection features watches with rectangular cases. The movements are quartz. The watches feature two time zones. T1 is the main hour markers with T2 coming as a rectangular subdial at the 6 o'clock. The T1 dial features Roman Numerals whereas the T2 dial has simple hour markers. The overall look of these Tissot watches is of an Art Deco design.

However, Tissot don't just make 'classically' styled watches. They produce some very trendy sports watches, the T-Touch being the most famous. This watch allows the user to access 11 different functions by simply touching the glass on the watch face. Among the functions available are Thermometer, Barometer, Altimeter, Compass and Meters/Imperial conversion. To underline its modernity, the casing is available in steel and titanium with white, back or silver dials. The straps are also very modern with blue, white leather, steel or rubber - the rubber strap looks especially good in Orange.

Tissot watches aren't going to appeal to many watch connoisseurs or collectors, however, they will certainly appeal to those who want to own a genuine Swiss watch from a Swiss manufacturer of some standing at a price that is very affordable.

An Overview Of Tissot Watches

Tissot T-Touch Watch Technology

Tissot T-Touch technology is an innovative watch technology that uses tactile sensitive watch crystals to operate their watches. The technology was developed by Tissot Watches, a company founded in 1853 in Le Locle, Switzerland where the company is still located. The Tissot Watch brand is now part of the Swatch Group, which is the largest watch company in the world. They are the maker of other fine Swiss watches such as Omega, Rado, Calvin Klein, Longines, and Pierre Balmain.

Most of the T-Touch models come with a chronograph, compass, two alarms, perpetual calendar, altimeter, thermometer, and barometer. Several models have both analogue and digital readouts. The T-Touch technology allows the user to touch various locations on the crystal watch dial to engage the particular feature.

To activate a feature, the user taps the touch sensitive sapphire crystal dial which has the name of the functions on the perimeter of the dial. Touching the centre of the dial will also allow the user to cycle through the different settings such as time zones, date, and other functions.

Another innovation that uses the T-Touch technology is incorporated into the Tissot Silen-T watch. The Silen-T allows the user to obtain the time by touching the screen and receiving silent vibrations. These vibrations provide the hours and minutes. By receiving the information in a discrete manner, it allows to the user to avoid the awkward situation of constantly looking at the watch to determine the time. The Silen-T watch is a great watch for those visual impairments. The Silen-T model also includes many of the other standard functions of the T-Touch Technology.

The Tissot T-Touch technology is available in over 40 styles and models within the family of T-Touch watches. Tissot Watches have always been known for their fine craftsmanship, stylish designs, and technological innovations. Their different collections of watches are versatile. They can be worn in a variety of settings from the boardroom to hiking in the woods. They were the first company to mass produce pocket watches yet they still retained their reputation quality workmanship and innovations.

Tissot Watches are the Official Timekeeper and the Official Watch of NASCAR. They have developed the T-Touch NASCAR which uses the T-Touch technology.

The T-Touch technology is an innovation that has made Tissot watches very popular with contemporary audiences. In addition to being fashionable, they are practical for a variety of uses. It remains to be seen what Tissot will come up with next and what additional features they will employ in future generations of T-Touch technology. It is bound to be something that will keep Tissot on the cutting edge of watch technology.

Discount Luxury Watches

When one thinks about luxury watches, they don't often combine that thought with the word discount. However, even in these trying economic times, it is possible to own a piece of affluence. Discount luxury watches are available. This means that stores and websites are selling actual luxury watch brands like Longine, Movado and Omega far below their normal retail value.

Elegance is the first word that comes to mind when one considers stepping up to a watch brand that connotes luxury. It is impossible to complete a classic business wardrobe or evening wear without the proper accessories. You need to have a watch that shines forth its opulence and declares that you are someone who knows what real taste is. The price, however, doesn't have to match the wealth emanating from the article.

When someone wants to upgrade their personal style, or finds that the luxury watch they are wearing has gone out of style, they want to purchase something new. Also, there are watches that have been in the jeweler's inventory too long, and have either lost their prestige or style. Sometimes, manufacturers decide that it is time to implement a new line. When this happens, they have to discount their old lines. All of these methods can provide an opportunity for you to purchase an exquisite specimen for far less than you normally could.

Diamond watches never lose their appeal. Luxury timepieces with genuine Swiss movements are also always en vogue. Look and function are the most important criteria when selecting a chronometer. A new watch has to have the right image for the occasion and be able to run reliably for a long time. A night out is not the same as a business meeting, and neither is the watch that accompanies either situation.

Business watch styles are generally more functional and less ostentatious. They give you the correct time, but they also convey a sense of purpose and intent. You wouldn't want a flashy diamond-studded timepiece adorning your dark power suit. Neither would you want a serious, multi-function, leather and steel wristwatch on a fun night in Las Vegas. Showing that you have the acumen to wear the right watch is as important as choosing the right fork for your olive.

When you are a junior executive, you need to have an exact perception of style. Moving up in the company means that you must impress in every area of your person. If you are not able to present the image that the company and their clients expect, you are not going to achieve lasting success.

Whether you wish to sport the watch on your wrist or in a pocket, there are many styles and brands available today at discount prices. A little bit of research and perseverance will allow you to acquire one of these lavish standards of dress at a price that won't empty your piggy bank.

This Year's Holiday Season Is All About Game Consoles and Luxury Watches

Ah, the holiday season. Time for peace on earth and goodwill towards men - unless you get in the way of a last-minute shopper. If you haven't gotten your holiday shopping done already, now's the time to start. Whatever holiday you celebrate, it's the time of year to exchange gifts - here are some ideas to get you started:

A Game Console

Game consoles have come a long way since the days of Pong. You can watch movies, listen to music and, of course, play games on them - but not any ordinary games. The video games that are coming out these days look better than some movies being made. Look into the Wii, Xbox 360 and PS3, all of which allow streaming from Netflix's Instant Watch as well.

An E-reader

E-readers have technically been around for about 40 years, but didn't really blow up until recently. They've been criticized - and feared - as the downfall of the paper book, but regular books seem to be doing fine. E-readers are perfect for voracious readers don't want to cart around a bunch of books, magazines and newspapers. Look into the Amazon Kindle, Barnes and Noble Nook and Apple iPad, which is actually a tablet computer with an e-book function.

A Luxury Watch

Designer are perfect for those who take looking good seriously. There are thousands of possibilities when it comes to luxury watches; it would be impossible not to find something. Look into Longines, Raymond Weil and Gucci watches; these companies supply some of the most beautiful luxury watches in the industry.

A Vacation

Set up a vacation package complete with air- and hotel fare, as well as gift certificates for nearby vacations and attractions. Find out which places the recipient has been wanting to visit, or if you're worried you won't be able to get enough details (such as when he or she will be able to take time from their everyday schedule) load them up with gift cards for airlines and hotels that they can use at their leisure.

Gift Card

On that note, gift cards generally make great gifts. It might seem like a cop-out, but it's actually the best (and yes, easiest) way to make sure the recipient gets exactly what he or she wants or needs. It might even be necessary in the case of people who like to remain cryptic when asked what they want, or put on a show about how you don't need to get them anything. If you don't already know, find out the recipient's favorite store, or get a Visa or Amex or Mastercard gift card - they can be used at any store that accepts those credit cards.

These gifts are just the tip of the gift-giving iceberg, though a luxury watch or e-reader is heartily recommended. Look for the dozens of "Top Gifts of 2010"-style lists that have hit the web, designed especially to help those of you who are a little lost when it comes to buying gifts.

Omega Watches and the Olympics

Omega is the official timekeeper of the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China. It only makes sense that Omega watches keep track of the times in the Olympics, as Omega invented the first stopwatch ever in 1898. In 1948, Omega also created the world's first photo-finish camera. Even the Swim-O-Matic touch pads at the Mexico City 1968 Olympic Games were made by Omega. As Omega keeps progressing the way the Olympics can enhance timekeeping, they continue to be the official timekeeper for the Summer Games.

Over many different time periods, the technology used to time events at the world Olympic Games have gone through the a variety of stages which include: manual timing, electro-mechanical timing, electronic-quartz timing and the broadcasting of live results. Timekeeper sponsors throughout the modern Olympic Games include Longines, Heuer, Omega, Seiko, and Swatch.

During the 1896 Athens Olympic games, a manual chronograph by Longines became the official timekeeper. It wasn't until 1932 when Omega became a sponsor and the official supplier of time for the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, and continued until 1964. Seiko, one of the early companies to explore quartz movement technology, became the official timekeeper for the Tokyo Olympic Games in 1964. As well as ending the monopoly of Swiss timekeepers at the Olympic Games, Seiko's designation bore witness to the importance of quartz timing technology.

The emergence of microelectronics brought about a revolutionary breakthrough for the timing of sports. In particular, the advent of computers and software equipped sports timers with more precise and perfected functions. In addition to being shown on the scoreboard, it was a very big deal when athletes' times could also be shown by video and used for radio and television.

By the year 1972, Omega and Longines co-founded the Swiss Timing Company, which focus in the manufacture of timers for the Olympic and other sporting events. Interestingly in the same year as the Swiss Timing company was founded, the Munich Olympics were held. These were the first Games to introduce the geodimeter and electronic timers with 1/1000th-second accuracy.

At the 2008 Olympic Games, Omega will be timekeeping again, and, just as important, data handling. They will be presiding over 302 events in 28 different sports at 37 far apart venues, principally at the already famed "Bird's Nest" main stadium in Beijing itself. Omega will be deploying 450 on-site technicians to handle over 450 tons of equipment, to service 70 scoreboards for the public's view, and 322 sport-specific subsidiary scoreboards, involving more than 175 km of cables and optical fiber. Omega has proved that it has the capabilities to do a great job timekeeping at the Olympics, and it sounds like they will be up to the task again.

Longines Watches - A Review Of The BelleArti Collection

The Longines BelleArti watch, though based on an older collection, comes with subtle modern styling that gives it a contemporary lift without abandoning its previous incarnation. It is an elegant ladies watch that comes in various configurations that will suit all tastes and budgets. I have only one criticism of this collection but, overall, I like the timeless elegance of these timepieces.

The watch does have a certain timeless elegance that owes much to the 1920s. Out of all the Longines watches, the BelleArti is perhaps the most feminine. To my mind, the most sophisticated and alluring of ladies watches should be rectangular in shape; somehow, round dials just seem to lack a certain something, perhaps round dials look their best when a little larger. All Longines BelleArti watches are rectangular with a slight curvature that allows them to sit on the wrist perfectly.

I do have one criticism though, and that is that all of the watches in this collection have quartz movements. I would have liked to have seen at least a few models with mechanical movements, perhaps even an automatic or chronograph version. I know that the case of mechanical movements, especially chronographs does have to be a little larger to accommodate it, but I think that the overall feminine style of the watch would not have been compromised with a larger case.

Most of the watches in the collection have white mother-of-pearl dials although some come with black lacquered dials. Also, each has a resistant sapphire crystal with a non-reflecting coating inside and is water resistant to about 30 meters. The casing size varies from between 15.90 x 31.50 mm to 27.30 x 54.60 mm.

A feature that appears on most of the watches is a seconds subdial at 6 o'clock; it's square in shape. The hour and minute hands are 'Cathedral' shaped and come in stainless steel, gold and blue to match and complement the colors of the casing and dial.

Some of the Longines watches in this collection are adorned with diamonds. Depending on the model, the diamonds have a total weight of between 0.5 and 2.0 carats. The diamonds are not mounted on the dial but on the bezel of the watches.

Unusually for a watch collection, each watch features Arabic numbers on all hour markers, except at the 6 o'clock where the second subdial is located. There are no models that feature either Roman numerals or just plain hour markers.

Which model you choose and what case finishing, dial color and strap is a personal matter. However, if I were to buy one of these Longines watches it would have to be model reference: L2.501.0.83.8. It has a stainless steel case, white mother-of-pearl dial with 42 Top Wesselton VVS diamonds (0.548 carats) mounted on the side bezels. It also comes with a blue Jean's strap. I know this sounds very unsophisticated but the 'denim' bracelet perfectly complements the blue hands and steel casing while the whole ensemble looks very feminine but with a youthful charm.

Longines Watches - A Review Of The BelleArti Collection

Watch Companies Use Communication Technology to Get Their Message Out

During the early days of watch production, watch makers relied almost entirely on their reputation. By offering the timeless qualities of craftsmanship, durability and good value for the money, many watch makers were propelled forward. Those watch makers who tried to profit by cutting corners and offering shoddy goods saw their reputations and their bank accounts suffer as a result.

One might say that the early watch business was driven customer by customer, sale by sale and watch by watch. Marketing to professionals such as scientists, pilots and other figures of authority helps to create an aura of credibility.

In the mid eighteen hundreds new methods of mass communication were sweeping across the business world. Europe and North America were two of the world major markets and trade between the two regions was bustling. Books, which had long been available to the elite classes, were becoming ubiquitous as the number of public libraries grew. Newspaper circulation was soaring, as more people became literate, learning to read and write.

During this important era in the development of communication systems, Samuel Morse introduced the telegraph, which allowed news and other information to travel great distances in near real time. The distance was greatly increased by the laying of the transatlantic telegraph cable, which connected North America and Europe.

By the eighteen sixties, everything was in place for a major revolution in how sellers communicated with buyers. As newspaper and magazine circulation grew, merchants and publishers saw the enormous potential in print advertising. This growth potential was not lost on watch manufacturers.

This potential expanded yet again with the introduction of the radio and the Bulova Watch Company was quick to jump on the technology bandwagon with a series of brilliant public relations moves. This strategy helped to rewrite the book on promotion and marketing strategies that included being a pioneering force in the use of radio advertising.

Another stunning promotional success initiated by Bulova included sponsoring the trans-Atlantic flight of Charles Lindbergh which captured the attention of people on both sides of the Atlantic aided by the telegraph and radio. These initiatives were made possible only by the development of mass communication technologies.

More than any other communication technology, television by far has had the greatest impact on how producers get their message to consumers. The advertising slogan it takes a licking and keeps on ticking has helped make the Timex brand world famous as a producer of reliable and stylish watches that are also very affordable. Made popular during the nineteen fifties and early nineteen sixties by television personality John Cameron Swayze, the innovative campaign took full advantage of television. Television was unsurpassed as an advertising medium that added impetus to the power of the demonstration.

Viewers were treated to a host of different scenarios, which tested the capabilities of the Timex during what was often billed as a torture test. The watches were strapped onto the blades of outboard boat motors, dropped into the water from heights as far as sixteen hundred feet and shown on camera to still be running. The company even strapped their watches to the backs of sea turtles and cliff divers in Mexico to prove how rugged these timepieces could be.

The Olympic Games and other major sporting events like World Cup Soccer have always drawn worldwide media attention and timepiece manufacturers have competed for the right to have their timing systems used to time various sporting events. Watch companies like Longines and Bulova have had long relationships with the Olympic Games and are examples of using the highly successful marketing strategy of product placement.

Longines Lady Watch Reviews

Longines having been making watches since 1832 making it one of the oldest Swiss watchmakers. Longines uses the logo "Elegance is an attitude" and it is this attitude combined with elegant design that has produced some of the most beautiful of Swiss ladies' watches.

The Longines BelleArti

This Longines watch draws its inspiration from the Art Deco movement of the 1920s. This ladies' watch from Longines appeals to women who want grace and elegance combined with gentle touch of feminism. The stainless steel case is ultra slim and curvaceous - something best appreciated when one views the case from the side. The dial comes in black, silver or mother-of-pearl. There are eleven Arabic figures on the dial and a second subsidiary dial at 6 o'clock. Two "Cathedral" hands add to its character. Bracelets come in, black leather, stainless steel or blue-jeans (the blue-jeans bracelet is of a very contemporary and young slant but it does combine nicely with the dial and case). Some models are available with inlaid diamonds. The slight rounding on the edges of the rectangular casing lends an unmistakable feminine style to these watches. All Longines Belle Arti watches are water resistant up to 30 meters.

The Longines DolceVita

The Longines Dolce Vita collection echoes style of the 1930s with the glamour of the 1950s. The Longines watch is one of the most elegant of ladies watches. Like the Longines BelleArti, DolceVita watches are of a rectangular stainless steel case with scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass and house a L963 quartz movement. They are markedly different though as the Longines DolceVita retains a straight edge on the case. There are different colored dials to choose from, as well as leather bracelets. For those with deep pockets you can buy models with inlaid diamonds. The model I particularly like is the L5.158.0.93.6. The watch is inlaid with 28 Top Wesselton diamonds - 14 down each vertical side of the bezel. The dial is pink mother-of-pearl. The most appealing part of the watch is the heart-shaped diamond set at the 12 o'clock position. The other indices are marked by 11 other diamonds. The crown is finished in pink to finish off the look of this watch. This watch just exudes femininity. Despite being 'festooned' with diamonds it still manages to retain a restrained glamour and beauty.

The Longines Evidenza

This watch from Longines has languid lines and an effortless style. The case comes in gloss-polished stainless steel or in 18K yellow or pink gold. The Longines Evidenza's cambered-profile case features a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal whose curvature underscores the case's sweeping lines. The dial is silver or black bearing period-style Arabic or Roman numerals swept by blued-metal hands. You have a choice of two bracelets to complement the watch; matching metal or high-quality brown leather, optionally with deployment clasp. Certain models are available with inlaid Top Wesselton VVS diamonds: 156 stones totaling 1.48 carats. They are water-resistant to 30 meters (100 ft).

Longines ladies' watches are amongst the most exquisite and feminine of watches. What constantly amazes me is their price. Compared to other high-end Swiss watches, the price of a Longines watch is usually lower. What this means is that most women can afford to buy a truly beautiful ladies' watch for that special occasion.

Longines

The brand Longines was borne in Saint-Imier in Switzerland in 1832. Since then it has strived to combine innovative technologies with elegance to become one of the best-known luxury designer watchmakers in the world. The advertising campaign of the company, 'Elegance is an Attitude' befits the Longines brand aptly. To prove its prowess in the market, Longines launched its first wristwatch in 1905, the world's thinnest electromagnetic watch in 1960 and the world's first cybernetic, electronic quartz watch - the Longines Ultra-Quartz - in 1969.

Soon thereafter, it pioneered the alphanumeric display for television in connection with the retransmission of a World Cup downhill skiing race in St. Moritz, Switzerland. In 1979, Longines in conjunction with other watch brands developed the "Feuille d'Or", the world's thinnest quartz watch. It surpassed its own record, when in 1984, it designed the world famous Conquest VHP (Very High Precision).

In the world of sports too, Longines has achieved tremendous breakthroughs. In 1912 it introduced the principle of an electric wire, which at the start and finish of a race, activated and stopped the timing mechanism. It has since been appointed official timekeeper for many international sports events, including many winter and summer Olympic Games.

If that were not enough, it has gone on to create history even in the sectors of aviation and navigation. It was responsible for timing Lindbergh's first solo flight across the Atlantic Ocean and, subsequently developed the Hour Angle watch according to a design drawn by Lindbergh himself.

Baume et Mercier

In 1921, the company was awarded the coveted Poinçon de Genéve, a watchmaker's highest honour, given by the Republic of Geneva. Baume et Mercier's development of the planetary rotor, which oscillates with the movements of the wrist to automatically wind the watch and activate the mainspring, led to the production of the world's flattest automatic watch. Since then the brand has sky rocketed into fame for its designer watches with fine craftsmanship.

How Men Can Dress Better - Designer Watches and More

Looking good ain't easy. It takes time, dedication and money to step your style up a notch. But that doesn't mean it can't be done. And I'm here to help.

1. Shoes: My momma always said you can tell a man by his hair, his nails and his shoes. So if you want to impress the ladies, buy a nice pair of brown loafers, and more formal black dress shoes, keep your nails and cuticles trim, and comb your hair. With two pairs of shoes you can wear one comfortably every day, and reserve the other for special occasions.

2. Pants: Some nice slacks can really improve your wardrobe, along with a pair of dark jeans. When you're shopping, make sure to try on the pants with shoes that you will wear with them; don't shop for dress pants with sneakers on. Don't wear them too tight, and don't wear them too loose, a pair that fits well will be somewhere in the middle. Pleats can make you look fat if you have a paunch to begin with, but for leaner men, on cords and khakis they can be a good look.

3. Shirts: Collars and buttons are a great way to look classier, but that doesn't mean that there aren't t-shirts that look good. A vintage shirt, or even a more muscular, tight fitting tee will preserve you a laid back, chic manner.

4. Sweaters: Cardigans are a great look and you can pair them with a tie or a bowtie if you want some funky class. Cashmere sweaters never go out of vogue and they last forever if you take care of them.

5. Jackets: When investing in jackets, you will want a blue blazer, a black one, and maybe a camel hair coat for the winter. When you buy a suit, you can often get away with wearing a jacket and jeans, if you want to diversify outfits.

6. Overcoats: A leather jacket is also a great investment, and will look flattering in the spring and fall.

7. Accessories: Jewelry on men isn't a good look unless you're Italian or you're wearing a nice watch. Longines mens watches and Baume & Mercier watches, Weil watches, or a Movado watch or Ebel watch are all very complementary to a fine wardrobe. Cufflinks are another classy accessory that you can add to a dress shirt for some pizazz. Designer shades can be overpriced, but certain brands are worth the little bit of luxury to be able to wear nice sunglasses.

Always go for quality over quantity. This is a very European practice. Investing $100 in a gorgeous shirt will get you more compliments than wearing five or six cheap tees. Finally, you will probably want to invest in a cologne that will mingle with your scent to produce a unique, delicious flavor. Smelling nice is the last step in dressing well, and I like to wear a scent that's unplaceable, whether by mixing two colognes, or spending a little extra to get something you can't find at the mall.

Bad Omega3 Pills and How to Avoid Them

As omega3 pills are one of the most popular and effective supplements on the market today, it comes as no surprise that the market is flooded with them, and the majority will be ineffective, overpriced and sometimes contain contaminants. Here's how to avoid them and find the very best.

Bad omega3 pills tend to be low in the main essential omega3 fatty acids DHA and EPA. Recent research shows us that it is DHA that is responsible for most of the benefits and should be present in much higher amounts than EPA.

Look to be getting at least 250mg of DHA per capsule to get the many benefits including prevention of heart attacks, lower cholesterol and improved brain function and mental well-being, to name a few.

Recent research from the University of California shows great promise for omega3 pills to help in the fight against breast, colon and prostate cancer, while British researchers have found they can slow or halt AMD, or age related eye disease which affects many of the over 50's.

Poor quality fish, bad handling and incorrect storage all lead to stale or rancid oil. You can test the quality of a fish oil supplement by cutting one open and smelling, there should only be a faint ocean scent and nothing else.

You should never have any fishy burps or repeating with a good oil and in fact the one I personally take daily is guaranteed to be the purest on earth and no fishy burps - guaranteed!

On the purity side of things, it is vital that your chosen supplement has undergone molecular distillation to remove such impurities as mercury, lead and PCB's. These potentially harmful toxins exist in many bad supplements as it is an expensive process and cuts into profits.

The result of this process is concentrated pure omega3 pills with higher levels of omega3 to provide you with more benefits.

This process and the quality of a supplement does not mean only the most expensive are the best! In fact it's quite the opposite with many $40 a month bottles containing far less DHA and more contaminants than a bottles costing less than $20 a month, which is more the price you should be paying anyway.

Now you know about bad omega3 pills and how to avoid them, you can confidently choose the best quality ones and start enjoying the many incredible health benefits they provide.

If you would like to learn more about the high quality DHA omega 3 supplements I personally take daily, visit my website today.

Cartier - The First Lady's Watch

What's in a watch? Luxury brands have long been used to judge and compare people's taste and sophistication. And that's a use they will continue to have long into the future. Watch brands actively encourage this comparison, employing celebrities to promote their watches and wear them to press-filled events. And just as different brands appeal to different people, different celebrities are sought out by brands to promote different images. Cindy Crawford and George Clooney are brand ambassadors for Omega, Lewis Hamilton for Tag, Roger Federer for Rolex. Magazines across the world are filled with adverts associating glamorous high profile individuals with watch brands.

Take Cartier, for example. Their watches and jewellery are elegant and sophisticated, but celebrities nowadays are harder to place in that role, flitting through fashions and falling in and out of favour with the public eye. Can you think of a celebrity associated with Cartier? Probably not. Their lasting popularity remains down to the constant, subtler exposure they gain from chance placements, such as Michelle Obama's decision to wear their Tank Francaise for her official White House portrait. They didn't know she was going to wear it; she chose to herself because a Cartier watch best symbolises her, and the image she wants to present. Coincidentally - or perhaps not - the First Lady she has been most compared to, Jackie Kennedy, also wore a Cartier in 1969. This is a brand that has a long history of producing high-end jewellery as well as watches, and is a name synonymous with style and class.

The watch worn by Michelle Obama on this occasion was subtle for a Cartier, a Stainless Steel Tank Francaise in steel, without the diamonds or gold that adorn many of the models in that collection. It is glamorous, but not too frivolous for a President's wife who has pledged to continue working on behalf of military and working families. The watch that Jackie Kennedy wore was the Tank Louis Cartier, a fitting watch for a woman renown for her style and grace. Almost unchanged, the model is still being sold 40 years on. The fleeting fashions that race by do not affect the glamour of the great and glorious.

This is Cartier's greatest asset. A Cartier watch will still look just as good half a century from now as it does today. Like all the true masters of watch making, they have found a look that doesn't age, and that's what makes them appeal not only to the likes of politicians and royalty, who have been Cartier's customers for generations, but to modern investors.

Cartier - The First Lady's Watch

The Wristwatch of Today

Wrist watches are watches that have a strap or bracelet attached to them, and can be worn on the wrist. While some wrist watches only show the time, more sophisticated ones will show the date, year, day of the week, month, temperature, and even GPS location, wind strength or heart rate.

The wrist watch was invented in the 1900s and for a long time was worn just by women. A Brazilian aviator - Alberto Santos Dumont - asked Louis Cartier, a friend of his, to come up with a watch that would allow him to check the time yet allow use of both hands. Cartier came up with a prototype and named it the Santos watch. It went on sale in 1911 and became extremely popular during World War I when soldiers used them while in trenches.

John Harwood invented the self-winding system in 1923, and over the years the wrist watch became a status symbol instead of just a convenient way to check the time. Watches were bought not just because of their precision and convenience, but also for their looks. Many kinds of wrist watches are now sought as collectors' items due to their looks, or the precision with which they tell the time, often going for huge amounts of money at auctions.

The look of the wrist watch has also changed over the years. From simple pocket watches attached to ribbons, the watch went from being round in shape to more irregular shapes like rectangular or oval. The functionality of the wrist watch has also changed over the years as it is no longer just used to tell the time. Athletes have specialized watches that will track everything from heart rate to the distance they have run, divers can use their watches to tell the depth of their dive and watches now tell everything from the date and day to the temperature.

Some of the more popular brands of wrist watches nowadays include Casio, and specifically their G Shock brand. Watches like G Shock include many of the popular functions, like telling the date, day, and time, as well as provide extra benefits, like withstanding shocks to the watches body. This makes them more durable and less likely to get damaged while in use. The G Shock Hybrid has a steel bracelet and is not only shock resistant, but also water resistant up to 200 meters, which makes it a great watch for daily wear.

The Wristwatch of Today

The Delightful World of Cartier Watches

The watches from famous brand names, such as Cartier watches to name just one, carry with them a legacy and a rich history.  The watch designs, we will highlight today are from this genre of watch makers, the ones who helped to create the allure and fascination we have with luxury watches.  These are some of the most iconic watch designs of the past 150 years:

• Since we started with the "King of Jewelers, and Jeweler to Kings", Cartier...let's discuss one of their most famous watch designs, the Tank.  First introduced in 1917, few know that the Tank design was inspired by actual military tanks, which were used on the Western Front.  The design, which took shape on the battlefield, would turn into this watch maker's most loved collections.  Today the Tank can be seen with opaline guilloche dials and diamond bezels.

• Another, truly original styling can be seen in Movado's Museum dial.  Created by George Hewitt in 1947, the Museum dial was too plain for many watch makers, but Movado picked it up and the rest was history.  They took the Museum dial on a fast and furious ride, through the years, and it has remained one of the most significant minimalistic interpretations of our time.

Certainly, the styling of both men's and women's watches has been an evolution in design and technology.  The luxury watch of today is lacking in nothing.  It has Swiss ingenuity, artistic styling, and old world charm, thanks to the innovative minds of the watch makers.

Designer Watches - Is it Really Necessary? (Authentic Vs Replica Part III)

This is the final installment of the three-part mini-series. In this article, issue whether it is really necessary to buy authentic or not and the difference of authentic vs. replica designer watches are what I will tackle.

The advent of technology paved the way for fraudster to create replicas of popular designer watches. This issue is now apparent and a major concern among manufacturer and watch designer because of the quality of replicas. If you are not familiar with authentic wristwatch such as Burberry, Dolce & Gabbana, Armani, Guess, Lacoste and other mid designer watch you will instantly believed that it is the real one.

Come to think of it, the numbers of fake wristwatches are almost seen everywhere. In every part of the world, in fact you can easily buy fake Cartier and if they can replicate high end wristwatch, what more with mid designer watch that sometimes the only distinction between authentic and fake lies only in the weight. Since weight rule does not apply to mid range designer watches, hence distinguishing between real and not is no easy task.

The only consolation that loyal patron and authentic designer watch manufacturer have to thank for is the fact that no matter how good the replicas are made, there will always be distinction or sign so that expert and fanatics of popular brands could easily identify the fakes just by the look and feel of the watch.

You see, an authentic wristwatch is always made with quality and therefore every single one pass rigorous test and craftsmanship that sets them apart. Moreover, some replicas weight less than its counterparts so in a way, you can easily tell which one is real or not once you put them in your wrist and feel its weights. Take note, as I mentioned awhile ago not all designer watches also weight heavy so sometimes it can be tricky.

Replicas are becoming popular because high-end and mid-range watch are admittedly expensive. However, if a buyer is wise enough and would think of the price as a small investment rather than an expense, then the cost becomes irrelevant. In truth, quality watches are indeed investment because for one they last longer than replicas.

Furthermore, authentic always have 2 or 10 years warranty and this are something replicas cannot provide. Apart from warranty, the prestige that comes with wearing something that is extremely popular could add to your personality. As a matter of fact, most people patronize Designer Watches because of the image that these designer watches could give them.

Man's quest to be above or out of the ordinary makes designer watch famous than ever. This is alone should be enough to make you go for authentic, besides if you really want branded watch it is wise to just save for it rather than waste your money buying replicas that would not even last for more than 2 year, if you are really lucky.

So the choice is yours, but if you weight the benefits of buying authentic designer watch then you will know why it is necessary to patronize only genuine brand. Hopefully, this article have enlightened you to the difference of authentic and replicas from one another.

There are mainly two kinds of replica Cartier watches available in the market. There are the ones that are completely fakes - a casual observer would spot the difference as soon as he takes a glance at them.

The next grade of watches are those look virtually the same with the real timepieces. But in terms of functionality, they compromise drastically. They won't work even though they boast almost the same presence at first glance. What's worse, it is said that the timepiece is waterproof to over 50 meters, yet a few drops would damage it. The above two categories of watches are very common and you will spot them on display by some vendors on the street corner. Apart from the two kinds of watches as mentioned above, there come high quality ones that are specializing in craftsmanship and design. Every detail of the original watches is mirror to perfection that even a professional expertise would find it hard to tell the two versions apart. Mens Designer Watches Make the Perfect Gift

Often times ladies like to purchase a gift of mens designer watches for their partner. This is a wonderful thought, but it can be rather difficult to accomplish. Hopefully this guide will help you to determine the perfect fit for your significant other, father, or brother. You only need to know the man in your life in order to find him the perfect gift.

You should know what kind of personality the man has. Does he have a strong personality, or is he more reserved or shy? Is he more into bold colors that stick out or does he prefer something a little less flashy? What type of occupation does he have? Will he want to wear this watch as an everyday accessory or just for special outings? Is he looking for a watch that is only for telling the time or is he looking for something more? And lastly, is the man that you're shopping for into sports such as fishing, hiking, or any other sport that requires him to be active? Knowing these simple things about the man in your life will help you have a better idea of what to purchase for a gift.

If his personality is more outgoing, he may prefer a larger watch. Something more flashy and showy is a good conversation piece and can lead to many more conversations for the talkative man. The shy friend might prefer to have a smaller watch with a brown or black leather band. The colors that men usually prefer are either stainless steal, black, brown, and blue. Anything other than those colors might be pushing your luck with your male friend. Be sure to avoid purchasing your new boyfriend a watch with a Disney character on the face.

For the men that are more into fashion you might be better off purchasing him a designer watch in the Cartier, Rolex, or other Swiss and European brands. For a more casual look you could try for Seiko, Armitron, or Dunhill. For a sportier look your man might prefer you to purchase something along the lines of Timex or Mount Royal. For the sports enthusiast you should have something that is waterproof and made of high quality to prevent breaking.

Know what your price limit is prior to the beginning of your shopping trip. This will narrow your ideas down to a certain price range, making it easier to make your purchase. You can shop online or in a store. Keep him in mind and picture how the watch would look on him. If you think it would look good on him, then go for it! If you have any second thoughts, skip that watch and keep looking. The mens designer watches market is huge and you are sure to find something that will suit your man. Keep looking until you find the perfect fit. Keep in mind that men are not usually as picky as women when it comes to accessories. A woman likes things to look a certain way and have two purposes, at least. The first purpose is to tell the time and the second is to have another beautiful piece of jewelry. A man likes his watch to have one purpose, and that is to tell the time. He likes to get down to the point, so anything beyond telling the time is a bonus for him. Relax and enjoy shopping for mens designer watches as a gift for your male friend.

Cartier's Magical, Mechanical Movements

Cartier designs have gained mass appeal. Their status has been heightened by their elegant designs, as well as their innovative, Swiss quality movements. Cartier offers three distinctive types of movements in their timepieces. Cartier produces their Quartz watches, the hand wound Mechanicals, and the automatic winding Mechanical watches. When looking to make a Cartier watch purchase, you will want to understand the differences in these different movements, and how each one will work for you. Today, I'd like to educate you on the hand wound Mechanical movement. What it is, how it works, and is this a good choice for you?

1. Where did the hand wound Mechanical movement come from? Hand wound Mechanicals are some of the earliest movements, dating back to the 13th century. At that time, these movements were ground-breaking. Certainly, watchmaking has come a long way since then, but hand wound movements are still popular, largely due to their continued accuracy.

2. How do they work? It works on the principle of centrifugal force. The winding of the watch, causes a winding of an internal spring. The spring wants to unwind, and when it does, the force it produces provides the energy source for the watch. The components that give rhythm to the movement are the spiral and the balance.

3. How often must I wind my Cartier Mechanical? In order to maintain proper functioning, this type of timepiece must be wound, everyday. It is highly recommended that you wind your watch at the same time each day, to ensure a constant rhythm.

4. Can I over wind the watch? Although, some of the hand wound Mechanical models are equipped with a safety mechanism to ensure you don't over wind, not all are. The best way to wind your Cartier watch is to take it off and hold it in the palm of your hand. Wind the watch slowly and feel for the tension. Stop winding when the watch dictates.

5. Why would I choose one? That choice is one of personal taste. The quality that goes into these individually created movements is exceptionally high, and the accuracy of these movements is undeniable, to within a few seconds each day. Although there is routine maintenance to consider, there are no electronics or batteries.

The choice to purchase a hand wound Mechanical Cartier timepiece is as individual as you. Whether you have a deep appreciation for the master watchmakers who, meticulously produce these amazing creations or just love that old world feel of winding your watch by hand...a Cartier hand wound Mechanical is a smart alternative.

Buying Designer Watches? How to Choose the Right One for You

Have you always been fascinated by how a man of wealth and power subtly flicks his wrist or taps a finger on his chin to expose the gleam of a designer watch, discreetly announcing, "I am made." A designer watch, more than a status symbol or a fashion statement, is an extension of your personality.

The question now is not, "Do I need a watch?" but rather, "Which watch should I wear?" And because watches have become statements of who we are and what status we have reached (or are aiming to reach), a lot of people opt to go for a designer watch. A designer watch, in a strict sense, is a high-end personal accessory that has been styled by an in-house or independent designer whose photo appears on the product brochure.

However, the term has evolved to mean any high-quality watch manufactured by the top watchmakers all over the world - Rolex, Patek Philippe, Cartier, Piaget, Breguet, and many others. The designer watch you choose should be able to state that you are "a cut above the rest." Apart from an impressive design, its mechanism should be of the highest quality craftsmanship, which translates to the phrase: "Swiss-made." Only the Swiss watchmaking industry can boast of more than four centuries of high-quality watchmaking traditions.

Designer watches today are the beneficiaries of the Swiss watcmaking industry's many firsts: the first wristwatch, the first water-resistant watch, the first quartz watch, the thinnest wristwatch in the world, the smallest watch, the most expensive...and the list goes on. A designer watch has a distinctive case or a shape that sets it apart from other watches. Its strap should also be an integral part of its design. There are designer watches that combine functions and are versatile enough to be worn any time of the day, but a true watch connoisseur would have several designer watches in his possession.

4 Categories

Designer watches may be classified into the following categories: sports, dress, complicated, and special watches - although a designer watch may seem to belong to several categories, or none at all.

Sports

If you're into sports, find a chronograph (a watch that that can measure discrete intervals of time) that is suited to your sport. Their bulky cases are meant to look "sporty," so you might want to think twice about wearing that to the boardroom. Dress watches are a must for formal or business occasions. Choose a thin, classic design in gold or a delicate leather strap. A few favorites are the classic Patek Philippe Calatrava, the Breguet Classique, and the Piaget Protocole.

Complicated

Complicated designer watches have features in addition to merely telling the time. They have tourbillons, repeaters, perpetual calendars, and moon phases. One of the most "complicated" watches ever assembled is the Destriero Scafusia by IWC.

Special aka Limited

Lastly, special designer watches are those that have been manufactured in limited numbers. For instance, the Piaget Torre dell'Orologio, created as a tribute to Venice's Tower Clock on St. Mark's Square, is limited to a mere 10 pieces. You might want to do the math on that to estimate its future resale value.

Conclusion

In all, aside from asking yourself, "Where do I intend to wear it?" and "What particular function do I want it to serve?" The foremost question should be, "Is it a reflection of my personality?"
